"The concept of IMMORTAL SOUL in Plato's and St. Augustine's philosophical reflection"

The goal of the thesis is to present the concept of immortal soul in Plato’s and St. Augustine’s philosophy. Chapter I introduces the concept of man as a spiritual-material being as formulated by Plato and St. Augustine. Chapter II discusses the structure and function of the soul as depicted by these two thinkers. Chapter III presents Plato’s and St. Augustine’s arguments for the immortality of the soul. It is followed by Chapter IV, discussing the meaning of true cognition in Plato’s philosophy and the discovery of eternal truths by the soul in St. Augustine’s philosophy. The final chapter summarizes the similarities and differences in the views of the two philosophers, primarily the ones related to the concept of immortal soul.Tematem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie koncepcji nieśmiertelnej duszy u dwóch filozofów: Platona oraz świętego Augustyna.W rozdziale I staram się przedstawić koncepcje człowieka, jako istoty duchowo-materialnej wypracowane przez Platona i świętego Augustyna. W rozdziale II ukazuję problematykę struktury i funkcji duszy tak jak przedstawili to w swoim dorobku filozoficznym obaj myśliciele. W rozdziale III staram się przybliżyć, w jaki sposób Platon i Augustyn argumentowali to, że dusza jest nieśmiertelna, aby w rozdziale IV pokazać, czym jest prawdziwe poznanie w filozofii Platona, oraz jak dusza odkrywa prawdy wieczne u świętego Augustyna. W ostatnim rozdziale przedstawiam podobieństwa i różnice, jakie można zauważyć śledząc poglądy obu filozofów, a przede wszystkim te zagadnienia, które są związane z nieśmiertelną duszą
